Various manufacturers will have their own design options, specifications, and accreditations regards flood protection and ease of use.
• The Pros: A flood door is always there and when locked offers flood protection even when you are away from the property. It needn’t look like a flood door; many manufacturers offer bespoke flood doors made in the style and colour of your old door.
• The Cons: Cost can be the determining factor; flood doors are expensive and require professional installation. Another consideration is ease of use; some flood doors can be heavy to operate.

Flood Barriers

• The Product: Flood barriers are available in a number of different forms ranging from hinged gates of Aluminium, Steel, or Timber, to demountable panels of Aluminium, Composites, or Inflatables.
• The Pros: Flood barriers are more affordable and can protect openings much wider than is possible with flood doors. Demountable barriers can be stored, usually on racks, ready to be put into place when there is an imminent flood or flood warning. Hinged flood gates are of course there all the time and just need to be closed.
• The Cons: Demountable flood barriers need to be put in place by the householder or responsible person when there is an imminent flood or flood warning. This can be a problem if the householder is away from home or is elderly or disabled.
