Building Regulations Part M is the set of requirements and guidance that deals with access to and use of buildings. In practice, it aims to make sure a building is usable by as many people as reasonably possible.
Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliance takes Part M a step further and refers to making premises accessible to disabled people. The law requires businesses and service providers to make “reasonable adjustments” to accommodate disabled individuals.
DDA compliance, in the USA Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a legal requirement for public access to commercial premises. Where structural constraints permit, door openings need to be of a width compatible with wheelchair access, with entry and/or egress over thresholds of no more than 15mm.
